Inspiration
• Enid Leroy
-
Jamaican, came to England in the 60’s.
My creative side has always been inspired by
knitting and crocheting by hand. Even though, this is labour intensive
work, I find it a good medium to tell the Jamaican history.
• Leonora Bailey
Hilton -
I am influenced by black history particularly
the route out of slavery. The journey deals with tribalism, service
and faith and this theme is represented in my work.
• Jo Moise -
All through my life I have been mesmerised by the past. By life,
death, ghosts and mementos we leave behind.
Nature enthrals me, the seasons allow me to observe the cycle
concisely, from the first shoots of spring to the stark deadness
of winter.
As a child I felt almost a Deity like confidence
after pressing a flower at the height of it’s beauty. The
theme of holding time in a moment runs throughout my work.
HOMEWARE:
Flowers & Feathers
Drawing on my fascination with the cycle of life and organic forms,
I have contained pressed flowers and feathers in clear glass and
made a range of mirrors, placemats and coasters. I like the idea
of these still life objects being used in a way that is integral
to the functions of everyday life.
FRAGMENTS OF LIFE COLLECTION:
I have taken the preserved life form one step further in this
collection. Here I have made mirrors and picture frames using
relics from our past, From Edwardian lace to personal trinkets,
theatre tickets, photographs and sections of old love letters,
thus completing a cycle and bringing our past, meaning in the
present.
I am happy to offer, via Imperial Household,
personal commissions. Fragments of your life, with panels containing
your own or your family’s souvenirs and history.
JEWELLERY:
In keeping with the theme of making the past current, I have amassed
a collection of antique and vintage jewellery, often in a shocking
state of disrepair. I love to loose myself amongst these and imagine
the history of a broken piece.
When I have conjured up a fitting life for
these gems, I set about interpreting these feelings into a new
piece. I mix these vintage jewels and beads with the finest ‘Swarovski
and crystals and semi-precious stones, combining the uniqueness
of the past with the ideas of today.
